Upcoming Parenting Session To Strengthen Family Ties

    Wednesday, October 8, 2014 - Keeping in line with their mission to empower, promote and enrich family life and individual independence, the Social Development Department is inviting the public, in particular parents to its Parenting Session on October 22.

     

    The session, ‘Parents: Cooperative Colleagues’ will focus on assisting parents who are no longer in a relationship, to parent in a cohesive and productive manner. It will take place at the BVI Red Cross Building from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

    Community Development Officer at the Social Development Department, Ms. Barbara Smith said that the session will address the importance of a family structure for children.

    The session will give parents the basic information on dealing with the impact of separation on them and their children, strategies to help families adjust to change, effective ways for communicating with each parent, visitation, how to keep children out of the middle of parents’ conflict, options for resolving family disputes, including mediation, counseling, the court process and how the child support guidelines are applied.

    Free babysitting services and refreshments will be offered to parents who attend the session.
