International Night yanked from Sugar Mas lineup

Infamus was the only artiste to perform at the Sugar Mas 42 International Night before rain washed out the event.

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IN 2013 the National Carnival Committee added an International Night to the Sugar Mas 42 calendar which created much hype and anticipation. The show was however cancelled because of heavy rain which fell after only one artiste had performed.

In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes National Carnival Committee Chairman, Sylvester Anthony announced that, that event will not feature on the calendar this year.

“I can announce now that there will not be an International Night this year. The reason for that is we are of the view that there has been more than enough international artistes coming to St. Kitts this year. And the second one was that while we started off thinking about it we discovered that a number of the artists we were looking at, were also being looked at by the organisers for Inception and Cooler Fete.

He added that the Carnival Committee would be partnering with two private fetes but disclosed the international event may be on the cards for the Sugar Mas 44 calendar.

“So this year we will be working along with Inception and Cooler Fete to ensure the product they put on will enhance the carnival experience. But the carnival committee itself would not be hosting an international event like we attempted to do last year. It doesn’t mean that we would not look at it again next year. It is just that this year we will not be doing so.”

Anthony also announced that because the Band Clash event failed last year, no attempt would be made to host such an event this year.

“We have tried in the last two years to have a band clash. It is clear that the bands do not appear to have the stomach to compete they all want to retain bragging rights for themselves so we aren’t going to make any effort to have that again this year. We tried for two years unsuccessfully so that is not a matter we will be pursuing.”

The Carnival Chairman informed that some private individuals have shown interest in organizing the breakfast fete which did not come off because of the weather.

“We have had some interest expressed in the hosting of the breakfast fete that was talked about last year that we had to cancel because of weather. There is some interest by some private persons to have that event and we will work with them.”

The Bar Crawls – a new and exciting feature which was added to last year’s festivities – according to Anthony, would be held at the beginning of Carnival and would most-likely end it.
