BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – OPERATIONS at Horsford’s Valu Mart were temporarily disrupted this afternoon (Oct. 10) when two armed individuals executed a “robbery” with the aid of a vehicle they are believed to have stolen a short while before.

Inspector Lyndon David, Public Relations Officer attached to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, told the media that at around 2:00p.m., police officers “responded to an incident that took place at Horsford’s Valu Mart wherein two assailants attacked a security officer who was at Valu Mart…”

He further explained that, “In the process, a shot was discharged but no one was hurt and from our initial investigations, an off-duty officer in plain clothes…went to assist the person who was attacked. During the process, the assailants were able to disarm the security guard who was carrying a firearm and they made their escape in a vehicle…”

The vehicle which the bandits used in the execution of their plan, according to David, was abandoned somewhere in Ponds Estate and has since been recovered by the police.

Shortly before this incident occurred, SKNVibes received word that a Ross University student was held at gunpoint in the New Road Housing area and her vehicle was stolen from her.

Inspector David confirmed that the incident did take place and also confirmed that the same vehicle was used in the incident at Valu Mart.

He also indicated that although nothing was taken from Valu Mart, it is classified as a robbery because the security officer's firearm was taken from him during the incident.

“We will continue our investigations into this matter and currently we are asking persons who may have information pertaining to the identity of these persons to contact the nearest police station or the Criminal Investigations Department at 465-2241 EXT 220 or 230 and give your information there or you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477...

“We would like to encourage persons to support our local law enforcement as we endeavour to solve crimes as they happen and prevent them before they do happen.”
