Mr. Bagnall first soca artiste to release for Sugar Mas 43

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the Sugar Mas 43 approaching, local soca artiste ‘Mr. Bagnall’ has been the first soca artiste to release his song dubbed ‘Mash it Up’ for the December celebrations.

Bagnall’s hit highlights some of the things that transpire during Carnival and it promotes the full enjoyment of the festival.

In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, Mr. Bagnall explained the motivation behind the song and highlighted some individuals who played a role on the track.

“I got the idea to do this song from a DJ Leroy James. I started working on the lyrics for this song in July, then hit the studio in August, finished the song in September. What we tried or did with the song was to try to give it a southern-style like Vincy mixed with our own Kittitian style. We wanted to do something different, something to follow up with last year’s hit ‘Wuk up Session’.

“The beat was made by Akai Hughes, former keyboardist and programmer of the Kollision Band, the song was recorded at DJ Rinch’s studio, live bass was played by Lomax former bass man of the Nu Vybes Band.”

Mr. Bagnall was launched onto the entertainment scene as a solo soca artiste during the Sugar Mas 42 festival and gained considerable acclamation. His hit for that celebration was quite popular and during the interview with SKNVibes, he commented on how he plans to better his performance and product for his fans.

“Since last year’s Soca Monarch Competition, I’ve learnt that the best man doesn’t always win but the best man always tries to make the best out of everything. Also the music is better, performance is going to be better…It’s going to be more energy as well. This year is going to be fun, the energy level is going to be high and I know the fans expect a lot from me this year. “

He also promised his fans that they could expect more music from him and he called on them to show him their support.

“Videos are going to be coming out along with more music. I’m just looking for the support from the fans. Sugar Mas 43 nice!”

Bagnall – legally known as Janos Bagnall – said fans should also look forward to the release of the album of Kollision Band, of which is a vocalist.

In 2013 Mr. Bagnall placed first runner up in the Power category of the Soca Monarch Competition. His song ‘Wukup Session’ also placed fourth in the Road March competition.
