BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SHOTS were fired in the Basseterre area during the early-morning hours of today (Oct. 18) and the incident has left three individuals with gunshot wounds.

Initial reports indicated that a shooting incident had occurred at Cayon Street just outside the Basseterre Police Station and that one individual had died as a result.

A police press release issued today however, informs that the incident occurred “near Bakers Corner and Cayon Street” and that it resulted in three individuals sustaining gunshot wounds.

The release names the casualties as Denis Benjamin of Conaree Village, Javon Silcott of Manchester Avenue, and Tashika Williams of Sandy Point who said they “do not know how or why they were injured”.

SKNVibes understands that Williams may have only been grazed during the incident and the police communique does indicate that Benjamin and Silcott were both detained at the hospital for “overnight observation” and that their injuries are not life-threatening.

The Violent Crimes Unit is making inquiries into the incident and the police have asked for the public’s assistance in this regard.
