The Cayon Football Club Profile - Leverton Jefffers

Press Release

The Cayon Football Club, in its quest to give the public an opportunity to know its players, has taken the initiative of creating Players’ Profiles.  The team, advancing from the St. Kitts & Nevis Football Association’s First Division to the Premier Division is being led by over twenty (20) young and vibrant males who are determined to utilize their passion of football to rebuild the Cayon community to what it once was.  Under the theme, “It Takes a Community to Raise a Champion Team”, the young men are determined to rebuild, revitalize and redirect their Cayon community to a positive motion through the sport of football.  As they’ve fully declared, the young people of Cayon are not afraid to show the world, they can get it right!

Meet our player for this week:

    Name:   Leverton Jeffers

    Age:         17

Number of years playing football: Seven (7) years

    Number of years playing with
the Cayon Football Club: “I have played football with the Cayon Football Club since I was ten (10) years old

    How did you become interested
in the game of football? “I was interested in the sport at a very early age as I spent years associating with the older men in the community who played the sport.  That helped to build my interest in the sport overall.”

What motivates you as a player? “For me, seeing everyone working together as a team pushes me.  I know I cannot disappoint myself but I also understand I can’t disappoint my team mates either.  So, yes, it’s all about teamwork to me.”

Who is your football icon and why? “My football icon is George “Yellow Man” Isaac of Cayon.  I grew up around him and I always said from a young age I’ll like to be just like him when I grow older; he is a star and by far the best footballer in the Federation.  Me rate him!”

If you can change one thing about
football in St. Kitts and Nevis, what
would it be and why? “I think footballers in St. Kitts and Nevis should be playing on a professional level.  Players should be paid to play, this would motivate them to play even harder and they should be able to receive payment after all the injuries that they get while playing the sport.”

Do you agree with the theme
“It Takes a Community to Raise
    A Champion Team”? Briefly

Explain your answer: “Yes I agree with the theme.  You see, fans support motivates players to really push harder on the field.  After all, when your fans are screaming, you just know you can’t disappoint them.”
