Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 21, 2014 (SKNIS): The Office of the Prime Minister, the Department of Youth Empowerment and the Taiwanese Embassy are among a number of entities giving support to a charity event for the underprivileged in the town of Sandy Point.

The event dubbed “Reach Out and Touch Benefit Art Exhibit and Auction” is scheduled for Sunday (November 02) at the St. Kitts Eco Center at Sandy Point from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is being spearheaded by Destination Sandy Point and the Sandy Point Arts Association. Pierre Liburd is an artist and member of the association. He explained that the event was originally planned for this Sunday (October 26) however due to prior commitments from key patrons and other enthusiasts a decision was made to change the date to November.

“We have been looking and discussing amongst ourselves ways in which we can use our skills to help the community and the country,” he said, noting that a number of young people have been attracted to the field and has produced fine works. “We believe that it is part of our personal and social responsibility to use our talents to help others in need.”

Approximately 40 pieces will be on display with 25 of them earmarked for auction later that night. The proceeds from the event will be used to help persons that are differently abled and/or shut in.

Liburd thanked the many partners that came together to organize this event.

“The partners see a great opportunity in terms of the persons who are in the community who can benefit from the financial resources generated through the exhibit,” Mr. Liburd revealed. “For the business community it is a good chance to get quality art to display in their business places, hotel rooms, condominiums, and to ensure that they play a part in the social development of the community while exercising their social corporate responsibility.”

Persons interested in the event can telephone 762-2962 or 664-9480 for more information.
