CIBC FirstCaribbean Staff, Families and Friends Continue to Support the Fight Against Cancer For What Matters – Securing the Health of Our Communities

Press Release
Basseterre, 22nd October, 2014 -  Hundreds of persons once again joined CIBC Firs Caribbean’s staff in their annual Walk in support of the fight against Cancer, which took place in the Federation on 11th October 2014.

Staff of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, along with their families, friends, and well-wishers took to the streets in a Health Walk to show their support for the fight against Cancer. The purpose of the walk was to increase awareness of the disease; raise funds for cancer care, treatment, and research; show support for cancer survivors; and to remember those who had passed.

This event builds on the 18 years during which the bank’s parent company, CIBC, has been at the forefront of supporting research to find a cure for cancer, through its title sponsorship of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s CIBC Run for the Cure.

Manager and Country Lead, G. Diane Francis says: “These events hold much meaning for CIBC FirstCaribbean and the personal involvement of staff demonstrates that CIBC FirstCaribbean’s giving goes beyond simply presenting a donation. It demonstrates that CIBC FirstCaribbean is indeed serious in its pursuit towards healthier communities.”

Since its inception in the Caribbean close to US$150 000 has been raised across the region for early detection and general education programmes, in an effort to provide greater awareness of this disease.

This year, the bank is building on the partnership forged with local cancer organizations and is working with Reach for Recovery to provide financial and other support to persons affected by cancer.
