Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 22, 2014 (SKNIS): Caniqua Elliot and Nagé Hendrickson received well deserved awards and earned money for their learning institution, the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) School by taking part in the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Essay and Poster Competition.

Caniqua placed second in the Florida Junior Division Essay Competition and was flanked by the Jamaica representative who was first and the Barbados representative who was third.  Nagé was awarded for creating a poster that reached the final round of the competition.

On Tuesday, Miranda Francis, Tourism Officer in the Ministry of Tourism awarded the prizes to the students and the school.  Explaining the lead-up to the competitions, she said that the SDA School had submitted a total of five essays and one poster.

“From these submissions, one student was selected for the Junior Division of the essay competition, and one student for the Junior Division of the poster competition,” Ms. Francis revealed.  “These two students were also the winners on the local level and their winning submissions were sent to Florida to represent St. Kitts.  This morning we are happy to announce that both students placed in these competitions.  Caniqua will received US$1,500.00 and Nagé US$200.00 and the Seventh Day Adventist School will also receive US$1,500.00.”

SDA Principle Mrs. Yvette Blanchette congratulated all of the participants.

“Now I am not shocked because from the launching of the competition, they were excited and elated,” Mrs. Blanchette enthused.  “Your success is the fruit of hard work.  Thanks to the parents, guardian and teachers who supported, assisted and encouraged you during your period of preparation.  Thanks to the FCCA for the initiative that provides the opportunity for the children to develop their creative skills.”

Caniqua and Nagé graciously accepted their awards in the presence of fellow students, parents and guardians.
