BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - REIGNING Power Soca Monarch Bjorn 'Mr. Hype' Bassue has promised more hype and humor as he bids to retain his title at the upcoming Sugar Mas 43 festivities.

Speaking with SKNVibes, Mr. Hype indicated that he was preparing for this year’s Sugar Mas celebrations since the end of Sugar Mas 42.

“Everything is pretty much smooth right now. I have been preparing since the last show ended so I feel like I have been ahead all the time because I have been preparing a long time now.

“I am very very confident I have a lot of support in all areas and I have good material that I have been working with. I don’t have any doubt in my mind at all that I will defend and retain that crown.”

Mr. Hype was also asked about what fans can expect from his songs this Carnival.

“First and foremost there is a lot of hype in it as usual, a lot of excitement, we bringing back the funny as usual. It is entertainment and it is something that we as Kittitians and as Caribbean people can relate to a lot.

“A lot of the material I produce is not anything to serious. It just brings out the lighter side to life and the day to day things that we deal with and find pleasure or humor in. The material for this year is basically that…things that everybody could relate to, it is humorous, it is full of energy, a lot of jumping up and running…hype and humor.”

Two weeks ago, Mr. Hype released a 24-second teaser video, whetting the appetites of his fans. Asked about the feedback he has received about the release, Mr. Hype said it has been astonishing.

“I was seriously astonished by the way people have been responding to it. It was just a 24 second teaser and people have been asking ‘where is the rest’. Even though it was a teaser, it had over 1000 hits on YouTube so that in itself is motivating and I see and feel that the people are ready for more and I am ready to give them more.”

In a recent interview with SKNVibes, Fantastic Tunda took aim at My Hype and his performance last year. Asked if he has a response, Mr. Hype.

“I heard that there was a song I wasn’t really following that much but I even heard there were articles online. I haven’t heard the song but I heard what it is about and that it is about Mr. Hype.

“I don’t know what to say. Everybody has to do what they feel is appropriate at this time, if that is his tactic or that is what he has to put out there. I support and encourage everyone that has been participating but right now my focus will be on final night and the music that I put out there so that people can relate and receive and enjoy carnival.

“As I said I have not heard it so I don’t know what I should say. Hey its soca, its music, its entertainment, his job is to entertain as well so let the bacchanal begin.”

Mr. Hype famously won the 2013 Power Soca Monarch with his hit song ‘Wuk It’.
