BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - LATINOS and locals were on Sunday (Oct. 26) thrilled with varying styles of Latin music as the annual Latin Fiesta event continues to grow as one of the top entertainment activities on the calendar of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Hundreds turned out to the beach setting at the St. Kitts Marriott Beach in Frigate Bay for Latin-styled amusement.

The Greenhouse Band brought a local flavor to the event as they performed for approximately one hour to a then small crowd and even incorporated some Latin-flavored entertainment into their rotation .’

Taking the stage next was Havana Express which performed a number of Latin music hits including ‘Waka Waka’ by Shakiria and ‘Bailando’ from Enrique Iglesias.

In the bachata, salsa and meringue dance competition, local duo Cristin Greaux and Samuel Phipps walked away with the win for the second consecutive year with their fancy footwork, and creative style of dancing to empower them to win the $1000 prize.

The dance group Habana Compás had their turn in the spotlight and impressed as they displayed a unique style of dance and well-choreographed moves as they captured the audience’s attention with their use of musical instruments and chairs in their intricate routine.

The much-anticipated Limi-T21 then took to the stage and delivered an energetic performance for more than one hour, often engaging the audience in bouts of clapping and waving.

The four vocalists of the group also wowed the crowd with their dance moves; their gyrations of their spring-like waists often drawing huge applause from the large crowd.

The Puerto Rican meringue group Plena Libre brought the curtains down to the fifth annual Latin fiesta and the celebration was capped off with a fireworks display.

The event also featured lots to eat and drink and was enjoyed from the vantage point of either the VIP chill spot or down on the beach.

SKNVibes spoke to a number of patrons of the event who said even when the Latin Fiesta was in swing, they were thinking about the 2015 staging, especially because each year is larger and better than the year before.

A number of locals expressed that although they could not understand many of the Spanish expressions used in the songs performed, “the music is what counts…”
