Cayon Football Club Supports Breast Cancer Awareness

Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts - On Sunday, 26th October, 2014, the players, members and fans of the Cayon Football Club showed their support in the continued education of Breast Cancer Awareness in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The young men took to the field at Warner Park, in their football jerseys which all had a pink ribbon bearing the name of the club attached to the ribbon.  This, the players stated shows they support the worthy cause of making the general public aware of breast cancer.  President of the Cayon Football Club, Miss Kaznee Williams, stated the team wanted to participate in the Breast Cancer Awareness health and fitness walk which was held on Saturday 25th October but was unable to do so as the team had to prepare for their Sunday’s game.  She said the club continues to support the worthy cause and they have raised funds from the sales of the ribbons which would later be handed over to a charity organization within the Federation.  Miss Williams conveyed as cancer has become more prevalent, she thinks there is no greater way to counteract the illness other than educating the citizens about not only of its treatment and cure but also about prevention and early detection.  “I’ve lost someone who was very dear to me from prostate cancer, and just the mention of the word, cancer, gets me all teary eyed so it is important that we continue such awareness campaign and include other cancer ailments as well as that of the breast.”

In speaking with one of the players, he stated many people think about females when they hear about breast cancer but he recently learnt men do suffer from breast cancer as well and also, even if they never experience such, they all have sisters, mothers, aunts or other female relatives who may have been affected in some way or the other by Breast Cancer.  He then asked that persons continue to support the cause in anyway possible.

The members of the Cayon Football Club encourage everyone to continue to educate each other and become educated on Breast Cancer.  It is never too late to begin to make oneself aware of the illness.  There are support groups here in the Federation and free breast examinations are offered at the Health Centers around the Federation and free literature can also be collected.

The Cayon Football Club supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
