BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST two days after a bus driver was shot and killed in the vicinity of White Gate and one day after a man from Cayon was stabbed during a fight at a football match held at Warner Park, a young man was hospitalised after being shot in Pond’s Extension.

The young man, whose name was given as Lincoln ‘Markie’ Liburd, was said to have been shot in one of his hands shortly after 12 noon today (Nov. 3) on Manchester Avenue, Pond’s Extension in the vicinity of Bractus Shop.

On arrival at the scene, this media observed that it was secured by armed men of the Security Forces whilst members of the Crime Scene Unit were combing the area for items of evidential value.

It was also observed that some 15 yellow markers were on Manchester Avenue, which indicated that that amount of spent shells were found by the investigators.

SKNVibes learned that while on Manchester Avenue, a gunman or gunmen opened fire on Liburd and he was hit in one of his hands.

He however began running away from his assailant(s), who gave chase and continued firing in his direction, and collapsed in a yard on the street immediately west of the Newtown Playfield.

A trail of blood was visible from where Liburd was shot all the way to the yard where he collapsed.

Speaking with this media house on condition of anonymity, one resident said that on hearing the first salvo they thought “it was the young people in the area setting off bombs as they usually do at this time of the year. But after realising they were gunfire, I remained in the comfort of their home and not to venture outside”.

According to a police press release, after Liburd was transported to the JNF Hospital, he refused to disclose who shot him.

The release however states: "Anyone who has any information pertaining to this incident is asked to call the Violent Crime Unit at 467-1887 or 467-1888, the nearest police station, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS). Remember, you do not have to provide your personal information and you maybe eligible to receive a reward."
