Cayon Football Club’s Players’ Profile

Press Release

Meet our player for this week:

    Name: ‘Kurt’ Morton
    Age:          25

Number of years playing football:   Twenty (20)

Number of years playing with the
Cayon Football Club: “It has been about ten (10) years I have been playing with the Cayon Football Club”

    How did you become interested
in the game of football? “Football is in my bloodline.  Both my mother and father were football players.  As a matter of fact, my mother is still actively involved in the sport.  I feel as if I became a footballer even before I knew how to kick a ball.”

What motivates you as a player? “What motivates me?  My mother – she is my biggest motivation.  There are days when I don’t feel like going but she stays on me and pushes me to move forward.  She just wouldn’t allow me to quit!  Some days her words may be harsh but I know she only wants me to do better in the sport of football and she is the reason why I could still be here playing the game that I love for the club that I love, the Cayon Football Club!  My mother, she is me driving force for real.”

Who is your football icon and why? “My football icon is Lionel Messi, the Argentine footballer.  I study Messi’s moves; and his attitude towards the sports inspires me to become a more humble player.  I mean, sometimes I get caught up in the rush of the game and I lash out a bit but I continue to improve as not only a player but as a person.  Each year, Messi just gets better; it’s as if the man doesn’t ever feel satisfied with how he is because he knows he can be better even when the fans think he is at his best.  So, just like him, I will continue to get better.  Yeah, Messi is my icon!”

If you can change one thing about
Football in St. Kitts and Nevis, what
would it be and why? “I think it is time for all footballers around the island to get equal chances to make the National Team.  This thing has been this way ever since back then and it still goes on.  Players from the countryside of the island have to work twice or three times harder than those from the town side.  I think this turns off the country players too from even trying out for the National squad because they already know what will happen.  This, to me, needs to change for us to have an even stronger National squad.”

Do you agree with the theme
“It Takes a Community to Raise
    A Champion Team?” Briefly
explain your answer: “Yeah man, I agree with this to the fullest!  The communities raise us from the time man a babies to when man become big man.  The people of the community are the ones who we look up to even though sometimes we may have disagreements.  There ain’t a thing better than looking up from the field and see the community members rooting for you.  It makes you feel good as a young man, knowing you are doing at least one thing right that your community is proud of.  It’s not easy being a young man and it’s not easy to get a whole community to rally for you especially after you have made mistakes so when we see the community supporting us, we don’t only feel good but we feel like we getting this thing right for once in our community!  We need full support from our communities no matter what results we get in our games because in the end, we are not doing this thing for us alone but for our community too.  Cayon Football Club will get it right you know, we just need the community to help us make it right too!”
