BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CARNIVAL COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN Sylvester Anthony has given rationale behind their decision to use Carnival Village for the hosting of Sugar Mas 43 shows.
It was recently announced by the Carnival Committee that the Sugar Mas festival would be moving back to Carnival Village after a four year hiatus.
In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, the Chairman of the Carnival Committee Sylvester Anthony stated that it was the wish of his committee to find a permanent home for Sugar Mas.
“We are trying to make Carnival Village the permanent home for Carnival. Our use of the football stadium and cricket stadium was really temporary. Sometimes things that are made to be temporary end up being permanent if you don’t make a deliberate effort to correct it and we are making a deliberate effort to correct it.
“We want to make Carnival Village the permanent Sugar Mill and we are starting this year.”
He added that it is expected to get a facelift.
“We will ensure that it is in shape. Don’t forget when we go to the football stadium or the cricket area, we have to spend money to build the facility and break it down and we had to repeat that every year. So we are going to the Carnival Village this year, we are going to put up our facilities one more time and there is the intention to make the venue permanent.”
He added that capacity will not be a concern as some major changes are set to take place starting shorty.
“As you will discover, we are relocating the stage that will give us some more space because the current stage location is not the appropriate stage location and I think people will be amazed how hospitable it is going to be.”
Since 2010 the major shows for Sugar Mas were held at a temporary venue either at the football or cricket stadium in Warner Park.
