St. Kitts and Nevis mourns another shooting death

    CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE twin-island Federation has once again plunged into mourning as, just some 27 hours after the shooting death of Everson Seabrookes near his Needsmust home in St. Kitts, another man lost his life in a gun-related incident on sister isle Nevis.

     

     A police communiqué issued this morning (Nov. 16) states: “The Violent Crime Unit (VCU) on Nevis is investigating a fatal shooting incident which occurred just after midnight last night (Saturday 15 November 2014) at Charlestown.

    “Initial investigation revealed that a male, whose name is withheld until the next of kin is notified, was at The Water Front with a female companion when he was attacked unknown assailants.”

    This media house however learned that that the shooting victim's name is Wilson 'Hawk' Jones and he was shot in the vicinity of Hunkins Drive in Charlestown whilst in the company of a female and was transported to the Alexandra Hospital thence to the JNF Hospital on St. Kitts, where he succumbed to his injuries.

    The police are asking anyone who has information pertaining to this incident to contact the Violent Crime Unit on Nevis at 469-5392, extension 27, the nearest police station or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS), and that one does not have to provide one’s personal information and may be eligible to receive a reward.

    This morning’s shooting death has taken to 18, the number of homicides committed in the Federation for the year; 14 on St. Kitts and four on Nevis.

    The first homicide for the year was that of Valentine ‘Wally’ Gaskin Jr. of Upper Cayon, St. Kitts, who was gunned down in the vicinity of the old St. Mary’s Anglican Rectory in Upper Cayon shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9.

    One month after (Feb. 9), 19-year-old Kevon Gordon of Parray’s Village, St. Peter’s, St. Kitts succumbed to his injuries at the JNF Hospital after being allegedly stabbed by his girlfriend. And 12 days after (Feb. 21), the body of Carlisle Hobson was found with a bullet wound to the head in the New River quarry area on Nevis.

    On Thursday (Mar. 27), 37-year-old businessman Glenford ‘Pilly’ Gumbs Jr. was shot multiple times to the body in front of his Frigate Bay home in St. Kitts, while Clive ‘Onkash’ Walters was shot near his Bath Village, Nevis home sometime after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday (May 8) and shortly after succumbed to his injuries at the Alexandra Hospital.

    On Saturday (Jul. 12), three young men, Cecil Charles, Glenville Hendrickson and Tavis Francis, were gunned down sometime after 3:00 a.m. on the Frigate Bay Strip in St. Kitts; while 48-year-old Brian ‘Junk-a-Body of Soho Alley, Basseterre, St. Kitts was allegedly beaten to death on Friday (Jul. 25).

    The 10th homicide was that of 15-year-old Shante Claxton of Jessups Village, Nevis, who was reportedly discovered dead by one of her relatives in or near the St. Thomas’ Primary School’s bathroom on the afternoon of Saturday (Sept. 6). 

    Two weeks later (Sept. 22), while at the Accident and Emergency Department of the JNF Hospital, a gunman entered the area at about 7:50 p.m. and fired a number of shots at Kaheel Herbert of Lower Thibou, Basseterre, St. Kitts. Moments later, another gunman entered the Department and fired more shots at the 19-year-old, who shortly after succumbed to his injuries.

    In the following month (Oct. 12), Javier Isaac of Willet’s Housing Project, St. Paul’s Village, St. Kitts was shot to the side at about 3:15 a.m. and died whilst receiving treatment at the JNF Hospital; while Shammond Herbert of Taylor’s Village, St. Kitts was gunned down sometime after 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 21) in the vicinity of the Newtown Boatyard and succumbed to his injuries at the JNF Hospital.

    At about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday (Oct. 23), the lifeless body of 24-year-old Istan Mitcham of Market Street, Basseterre, St. Kitts was found lying on a concrete step at the lower section of West Bourne Ghaut in Basseterre with multiple times to his body.

    On Saturday (Nov. 1) popular passenger bus operator Kevin ‘Broadie’ Newman was shot and killed whilst driving along the Island Main Road in the vicinity of the White Gate area near St. Paul’s Village, St. Kitts.

    On Sunday (Nov. 9), 40-year-old Leon ‘Froggy’ Mills of La Guerite was allegedly killed by his wife following a domestic dispute; and the 17th homicide is that of Everson Seabrookes who was shot multiple times to the body near his Needsmust home in St. Kitts shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 14).
