Team UNITY's Statement on Crime Wave in St.Kitts-Nevis

Press Release (TUCOM)

Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM):- We extend our sincere thoughts, prayers, and condolences to all family members, friends, and well wishers of the recent victims of the murders in St. Kitts and in Nevis this past weekend.

This is becoming a far to common theme as we have been experiencing violent crime in our nation like never before.  Too often families are in mourning  because a loved one is taken from them tragically and violently.  Much too often the piercing scream of a loved one is heard as the pain and anguish become too overwhelming to contain.  At the rate we are going,  we are securing the violent label as one of the most homicidal countries in the world. That's a shameful designation to have.  Sadly, we have earned that label for many years in a row.

None will argue that our country needs to change that course of direction.  Our country needs a new commitment from all our citizens and residents to unite to fight crime on all fronts and on all occasions.  We must resist those who break our laws and assure them of no impunity.  We must demand that law enforcement be given the right tools, training and support to serve and protect us.  We must ensure that our people are not afraid to walk the streets in their neighborhoods.  We must ensure that our Island is a safe Island for all who want to live, work and play.

We are fighting for the soul of our nation.  We are fighting for the spirit of a people.  I want to see a St.Kitts-Nevis  where we don't resolve conflict with violence.  I pray for the day when in conflict and in disagreement and yes even in anger  we can look at a person and see them as created by God in His Image.

When we look at our brothers and sisters here in St.Kitts-Nevis  let's not just see an empty shell of a human being.  Rather when we look at our brothers and sisters in St.Kitts-Nevis  let us see the spirit of Man created in the image of God in His likeness.

We must replace violence with nonviolence, love, peace, justice, forgiveness, patience, integrity, and hope.  This is the spirit that brings us together and defines the soul of our nation and the character of its people.  This is why we must come together to preserve the soul of our nation and the character of its people and so we can better ensure our country is among the best places to live safe, secure and be prosperous.

Our country needs more prayers and praying people because we wrestle not against flesh and blood!  God hears our cries!  The enemy will not win!

As we come together in Unity for yet another terrible tragedy, Team UNITY offers our prayers, support, and love to all who mourn.

May God continue to comfort all who mourn at this time.
