Singer Sophia Brown wins award in Connecticut

    CT: It was a big night on Saturday, November 22nd for Jamaican reggae songbird Sophia Brown at the inaugural Lady Flava Radio Network Awards Show in Hartford, Connecticut. Brown, who was elegantly dressed in a pink 'Tribal Print' gown by Daniela Stone of DTS Design, won the award for 'Best Female Lovers Rock Singer.' 

     

    During her acceptance speech, she thanked those who made 2014 such a successful year for her.

    'I am thrilled to have won this prestigious award. I worked extremely hard this year and I am very happy that my work is being recognized internationally. I must thank radio for playing my music. I also thank my fans in Jamaica and around the world, the producers of this event and my family for the support they have given to me" she said.  

    Brown also performed and had fans rocking and grooving as she crooned 'Tonight,' 'Gimme That Good Love' and a medley of songs that included Rita Marley's 'One Draw' and Marcia Griffiths' 'Feel Like Dancing.'

    Other winners at the award show which honored stars in the arts were American film maker, director, producer Stephen Stix Josey who received an 'Outstanding Achievement' award in film and music. Josey has worked with Mobb Deep and has released several films including 'Angels Around Me.' Tena Williams won the award for 'Best Female Author,' while Keri Singleton was judged 'Best Male Author.'

    This is the second big award for the 'Gimme That Good Love' singer, who was honored in May with a 'Lifetime Achievement Award' at the 2014 Linkage Awards in New York. Her summer release ‘Wide Awake,’ a lovers rock ballad about falling in love charted in the US. In September, she dropped a sizzling R&B flavored single titled 'Rain Over Me' that is currently #12 on the New Style Radio, 98.7 FM chart in Birmingham, England.
