Several service organizations throughout the Territory received holiday goodies from the Rotaract Club of Tortola.

November 28th, 2014  --  On Thursday 26 November, members and guest of the Rotaract Club of Tortola visited various service organizations and brought pumpkin pies, pumpkin cheesecakes and other goodies.

According to the Community Service Director of the Rotatract Club of Tortola, Ms. Hannah Sagala, “It was important for Rotaract to give back to those service organizations to show that we appreciate what they do for our community.”

Sagala added, “They asked for nothing and often don’t get the recognition they truly deserve. But this Thanksgiving we are simply thanking them for their hard work and dedication towards creating a better Virgin Islands.”

These service organizations were BVI Cancer Society, Family Support Network, Adina Donovan Home Staff, BVI Human Society, Sandy Lane Center, BVI Red Cross and Airport Fire and Rescue Service.

According to President of the Club Jevaughn Rhymer, “at the beginning of the 2014/15 Rotaract Year we pledged to be more present in the community and this is one of the ways in which we sought to do so”; adding, “many persons within these organizations work tirelessly toward the advancement of the people of these Virgin Islands and we distributed treats as our way of saying thanks, and for this they were most grateful.

Rhymer continued that this isn’t the only initiative the club has planned for the holiday season. The Club will host their annual Christmas luncheon at the Adina Donovan Home next month. This party features goodie bags with much needed items for the residents as well as entertainment and treats for the staff.

The Rotaract Club of Tortola is a community service organization made of young professionals between ages 18 to 30. The club meets at the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports conference room on Fridays at 5:30 p.m. The Club’s motto is Fellowship through Service.
