BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FORMER Leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) and Candidate for Constituency Four, Lindsay Grant is alleging that individuals with St. Kitts and Nevis passports now have to undergo new security measures when travelling to the United Kingdom.

Speaking on WINN FM’s Voices programme on Monday (Dec. 1), Grant claimed that an individual who recently travelled to the United Kingdom contacted and informed him of the new requirements.

“I know we have had the Caribbean situations where the Canadians have now decided that nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis now require Visas to travel to Canada, but I want to tell you of the latest development as of two days ago.

“The government has not come to the people as yet and indicate to us the new development deriving out of the United Kingdom. I was called this morning by a national who travelled to the United Kingdom over the weekend.

“That individual was pulled aside and was placed in the holding room. The reason being is that individual held a passport of St. Kitts and Nevis and did not have his place of birth mentioned in the passport.”

Grant also indicated that the individual was told the requirements would include screening and a special visa should there be an omission of his place of birth.

“What the official said to them was that as of that day they are imposing special measures on persons travelling from St. Kitts and Nevis with St. Kitts and Nevis passports without place of birth within it.

“The two special requirements they are now going to be faced with: one, you are going to be pulled aside for a screening and secondly we are going to need a special visa if our place of birth is not in the passport. It so happened that the individual had their birth certificate and, as a consequence of having that birth certificate, they were allowed safe entry.”

He then called on the public to question the government on these new requirements.

“I think we need to now ask the government if this is correct. We need to know if the government is in possession of that information and what is going to happen as a result of that.”
