“Don’t pressure yourself; just do your best”...says State Scholar

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CHLOE WILLIAMS of Nevis has accomplished what few others have over the years and what many would never attain, the status of State Scholar. But, in her success, she has a word of advice for those who have yet to sit their examinations.

Recently, Williams was among more than 60 individuals (both students and teachers) recognised by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CIC) during its 28th Academic Excellence Recognition Awards Ceremony.

Following the ceremony, SKNVibes interviewed Williams and she indicated that words were insufficient in expressing the way she felt about her accomplishment.

Williams displayed her academic prowess by returning Grade 1 passes in Accounts Units 1 and 2, Management of Business Units 1 and 2, Economics Unit 1 and Communication Studies, and three Grade 2 passes in CAPE examinations.

She explained that while there were those who had earmarked her as State Scholar 2014, she chose not to take on or apply that type of pressure to herself but resolved to simply do her best.

It just so happened that her best was enough for her to achieve State Scholar status.

“A lot of people had me to be the State Scholar but I never really put that kind of pressure on myself. I just knew that I wanted to do well and I felt that if I did my best I would be okay. It just happened that my best allowed me to be the State Scholar.

In her advice to high school and sixth form students, Williams said: “Do not put that kind of pressure on yourself but give of your best. Put in the hard work and trust God.”

Williams told this publication that she is currently employed and plans be off to university in one year’s time.
