BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST one week after the shooting death of Javid Merritt, his nephew was gunned down on the Lime Kiln Playfield.

Dead is Gavin Whyte of Buckley’s Site who was shot multiple times to the body earlier tonight (Dec. 8) whilst on the Lime Kiln Playfield.

On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes observed the motionless body of Whyte was lying on the eastern side of the Playfield and investigations were already underway by members of the Crime Scene and Violent Crime Units.

This media house learned that he was the nephew of Javid Merritt, who was gunned-down while in the comfort of his Buckley's Housing home in the wee hours of Monday (Dec. 1).

On Friday, September 26, 2014, police had issued a wanted bulletin for three individuals, whom they claimed were persons of interest, in connection with the murder of Kaheel Herbert who was of resident of Thibou Avenue.

Among them was Whyte but, to date, the police have not informed the media if the men had either surrendered themselves or were apprehended by the lawmen. From all indications, including tonight’s incident, it is logical to conclude that the investigators did not find anything to pin on the trio.

The 19-year-old Herbert was reportedly at the JNF General Hospital in the Accident and Emergency Department on Monday (Sept. 22) when two gunmen entered and fired shots at him.

Herbert was struck multiple times and rushed into emergency surgery but later succumbed to his injuries.

Gavin Whyte, who is said to be 22 years old, is the 22nd person to have been murdered in St. Kitts and Nevis for the year.
