Basseterre, St. Kitts (December 11, 2014) – The act of giving is increasingly important during the festive month of December when family and friends make a special effort to come together to celebrate the birth of Christ. Even so, Digicel St. Kitts & Nevis continues to give a helping hand to community and charitable organizations, under this year’s theme “Christmas Together”.
Last week saw the telecoms family giving a cash donation of $5,000 to the McKnight Community Centre towards Graphic Designing classes; and on December 9, another presentation was made to the local Salvation Army on Cayon Street. Majors Roxroy and Marjorie Campbell were on location to graciously receive several bags and boxes of grocery items, courtesy of Digicel. The Corps Officers expressed gratitude to the private sector organization for the kind gesture.
Mr. Campbell further expressed that the timely donation by Digicel of non-perishable items and toiletries would go a far way in helping to fill the Care Packages which will be distributed to needy citizens later this month. Weekly hospital visits are also conducted by The Salvation Army.
During the brief hand-over event on Tuesday, Digicel CEO Johnny Ingle, revealed that in addition to the in-kind donation to The Salvation Army, a cheque of $1000 was also being presented to this worthwhile cause. Private individuals and other organizations are being encouraged to give to The Salvation Army through the kettle drive at various supermarkets in the corporate area, or by contacting the office at 869-465-2106.
