By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – INFORMATION reaching this publication indicates that police are investigating the shooting of a man in Newtown at about 7:30 this morning (Dec. 16) while he was walking on his way to work.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the man was in the vicinity of the old CEMACO building in Newtown when a gunman or gunmen opened fire in his direction.

SKNVibes is not certain about the amount of shots fired at the man, however, it is said that he sustained a wound under one of his arms.

Further reports suggest that when the victim fell to the ground, the gunman approached and attempted to discharge more rounds but the gun was jammed.

The injured man, whose name was given only as Ritchen, was reportedly transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital via the Emergency Medical Services Unit.

SKNVibes spoke with the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Stafford Liburd, who indicated that he was informed of “an incident” but had not yet received details. However, a call was later made to Assistant Commissioner Ian Queeley who informed that the man is in stable condition at the hospital.

Further details will be provided in a subsequent post as they become available.
