Deceber 20th, 2014 -- Residents and Staff of the Adina Donovan Home for the Elderly received essentials, goodies and entertainment from the Rotaract Club of Tortola. On Saturday 13th December, members from the Rotaract Club of Tortola hosted their annual holiday luncheon at the home.

According to prospective member of the Rotaract Club of Tortola, Ms. Brittany Wilson, “It is the Christmas season, and we saw it fit during this time of the year to display qualities of love, joy, kindness and willingness to give to the elders of our community.” Through this, some of the necessaries provided to the residents of the home included: vests, t-shirts, band-aid, socks, soaps, rubbing alcohol and ensure among other things.

Wilson added, “We ourselves might one day become residents of the home and would like for someone to support us and spend time with us during the holiday season.

While at the home, Rotaractors helped set up and served lunch, danced and socialized with the residents and staff at the home. Ms. Wilson continued, “It was very moving to see the residents happy and enjoying themselves as many of them sang along to Christmas carols played by local fungi band the Razor Blades”.

President of the Club Jevaughn Rhymer noted that this was the fourth consecutive year that the club hosted their Christmas luncheon at the Adina Donovan Home. He asserted, “It is great to get support from local businesses such as Road Town Wholesale J& K Services, Tortola Department Store and the Razor Blades Fungi Band who helped make this year’s luncheon a success and for this we are thankful”.

According to Rhymer, “we see the home as an important place to visit and assist as much where necessary since persons within the home are those that would have paved the way for us today”. He added “as this month is designated ‘Family Month’ in the rotaract calendar and since many of those persons are also alienated from their families, it was important for us offer those residents a family environment during the holidays”.

During the Christmas season the Rotaract Club of Tortola also brought Christmas cheer to the children’s and maternity ward at the Peeble’s Hospital using handmade decorations themed from the popular movie ‘Frozen’.

The Rotaract Club of Tortola is a community service organization made of young professionals between ages 18 to 30. The club meets at the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports conference room on Fridays at 5:30 p.m. The Club’s motto is Fellowship through Service.
