Miss BHS crowned National Talented Teen

    1:22 a.m.  -  Miss Basseterre High Rikki Blake-Brookes was adjudged the 2014/2015 National Talented Teen with Miss Washington Archibald Kahnein Blanchette taking the First Runner-up position, Miss Cayon High Tahirah Dore Second Runner-up and Miss Charles E. Mills Secondary Azariah Vanterpool taking the Third Runner-up spot.

     

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MANY people have been questioning who would be crowned the 2014/2015 Talented Teen from among the bevy of beauties coming out of seven secondary and high schools in St. Kitts and who will be gracing the stage at the Sugar Mill (Carnival Village) tonight (Dec. 20). 

     

    This is indeed a very tough question to answer, but this publication will be providing an up-to-date account of what is expected to be a hotly-contested Pageant.
     
    The seven beauties are Miss Verchilds High Charity Mardenborough, Miss Saddlers Secondary Danecia Henry, Miss Immaculate Conception Catholic Barisha Cranstoun, Miss Basseterre High Rikki Blake-Brookes, Miss Charles E. Mills Secondary Azariah Vanterpool, Miss Cayon High Tahirah Dore and Miss Washington Archibald High Kahnein Blanchette.
     
    8:39 p.m. – The event commenced with a near capacity crowd showing respect as the National Anthem is being played.
     
    8:43 p.m.  – The host and Hostess, Delente Lewis and Pernelle Abraham together delivered opening remarks and introduced a chorale from the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College that provided the large crowd with a beautiful rendition.
     
    8:48 p.m.  – All contestants took to the stage (Fanfare) much to the delight of their supporters, including family members, schoolmates, friends and supporters.
     
    9:03 p.m.  – The contestants returned onstage for the Ambassadorial Speech/Wear; a segment that had supporters of each contestant cheering, clapping and shouting their approval. The first of the seven contestants to have graced the stage was Miss Verchilds High, followed by Miss Saddlers Secondary, Miss Immaculate Conception Catholic, Miss Basseterre High, Miss Charles E. Mills Secondary, Miss Cayon High and Miss Washington Archibald High.
     
    9:32 p.m. – While the contestants were preparing for the second segment – Performing Talent -, the crowd was entertained by a number of selections by the Genesis Band.
     
    10:00 p.m.  -   Bedecked in a yellow pants suit, Miss Verchilds High Charity Mardenborough went onstage in a globe to depict what she termed "Break Free". Her performing piece speaks to a teenager who feels trapped in a world where she tries to please everyone but faces much pressure and tries to break free. She does not let the different social ills prevent her from being who she wants to be and fulfilling her dreams. It also speaks to her encouraging all teenagers to work hard and break free from everything negative. 
     
    10:15 p.m.  -  Miss Saddlers Secondary Danecia Henry is the second contestant to showcase her talent. She did in a piece entitled ‘What’s Next?’ What’s Next is one of the questions she asks as she seeks answers for the various ills plaguing the Federation’s youth. She however believes that she would stay true to the popular saying: “We must be the change we wish to see”. And this starts with her. Danecia expressed these words in the form of a song.
     
    10:20 p.m.  -  Contestant number three, Miss Immaculate Conception Catholic Barisha Cranstoun, sang a song in this segment that depicted a young girl trapped in a classroom, where everyone surrounding her is superficial and materialistic. And she being different, that constantly leads to being picked on, jeered, bullied and ridiculed, which caused her to develop a feeling of helplessness. Barisha, through dramatisation and musical rendition, revealed to the audience the “Self Within”.
     
    10:27 p.m.  -  Contestant number four, Miss Basseterre High Rikki Blake-Brookes depicted in song and dance that she, as an advocate for coupling extra-curricular activities with academics, had a powerful presentation to deliver. Depicting a girl who is distraught and discouraged from participating in afterschool activities, she builds the courage to declare that she deserves a life that transcends schoolbooks only. She called her presentation “Chandelier”. 
     
    10:41 p.m.  -  Miss Charles E. Mills Secondary Azariah Vanterpool went onstage and did her presentation in song and dance. As a 13-year-old, she believes that she is too mature to associate with her younger siblings. However, returning from a late night rave, she recounts the scene she met when arriving home earlier to one of her classmates before going to bed. As she sleeps, she finds herself lost in a fantasy world. But she awakes with a different spin on things and admonished her peers to savor this stage of their lives.
     
    10:50 p.m.  -  The sixth contestant, Miss Cayon High Tahirah Dore, played the role of a pious individual who preached against the evils that manifests in the young. She sought solutions to the social ills through a very powerful sermon to the youths.
     
    11:00 p.m.  -  Miss Washington Archibald High Kahnein Blanchette, the final contestant in this segment, delivered a choreographed dramatic presentation to address the denial of her rights to be a child. When forced to adopt and perform adult responsibilities, they limit her chances to develop academically and being able to explore the field of dancing. Her presentation was termed “Don’t load me with your Responsibilities”.
     
    11:15 p.m.  -  The capacity crowd is being entertained by Dejour.
     
    11:42 p.m.  -  The third segment, Evening Wear, begins with Miss Verchilds High donning an orange organza and mess ball gown dubbed ‘Caribbean Sunset’. This contemporary-styled gown comprises of elegant meshed long sleeves and a slight sweetheart neckline that plunges down to a subtle natural hug engulfing  her waistline. This glamorous and dramatic floor-length gown extends into a trail and is intricately adorned with crystal embellishments. 
     
    11:43 p.m.  -  Miss Saddlers Secondary entered onstage wearing a teenage ballroom gown which she calls “Ifeoma, Simply Beautiful”. Just imagine being in an enchanted pink forest on a bright, sunny day picturing this magical and creative princess gown as a flowing river. The bodice of this teenage gown is decorated with shiny diamonds depicting tiny raindrops falling into this peaceful and beautiful river. As we follow the path of the river, it takes us to the skirt of the dress which, if your imagination is as daring as a teenager’s, it could be pictured a magnificent waterfall with tales untold. The ruffled effect illustrates tiny waves flowing as a gentle wind passes through the forest. This dress is simple a teenager’s dream. 
     
    11:46 p.m. - Every girl dreams of being a princess and Miss Imaculate Conception Catholic is no exception in an exquisite gown dubbed 'Lavender Bliss'. This magical inexplicable illusion features a modest sweetheart neckline with a jewel encrusted fitted bodice and an accentuated basque waistline. This teenager's dress is emphasised by moderately beaded cap sleeves with accents on each shoulder. her floor-length ball gown skirt is made of soft, lilac, ruffled, layered organza which lens to its youthful and blissful delight. The back of this stunning creation is expertly draped with crystallised fabric strap. A lacced corset cascades down the centre of her back to make a striking exit and highlight this already glamourously fashioned gown.  
     
    11:49 p.m.  -  Miss Basseterre High appears onstage in a gown reminiscent of the glorious glowing light that majestically paint the evening sky just as the sun sinks slowly below the horizon. Her gown is called "Twilight". She illuminates the night, drenched in a splendid spectrum of the most elegant hues. Subtle, yet vivid tinges of blue, green, violet and rose blend brilliantly together to create this spectacular sight.
     
    The dress' glimmering bodice is made of luxurious fabric and gently embraces the teenager's frame. Its flared skirting that moves majestically in the gentle breeze is delicately and exotically trimmed to perfection. To harmonise her heavenly aura, Miss Basseterre High's dress twinkles with carefully clustered and scattered gems that shimmer like stars. matching crystal accessories make this elegant ensemble complete as she parades with perfect poise before her audience.
     
    12:52 a.m.  -  Miss Charles E. Mills Secondary Azariah Vanterpool makes her was onstage in what she termed “Invigorating Melon”. Panels of sparkling iridescent gold sandwiching thin bands of vibrant watermelon organza and a sweetheart neckline bodice enhanced with luxurious coral-gold gems along the bustline and hip, engulf the petite torso of the 15-year-old contestant. A traditional corset back laced with a refreshing watermelon strap helps to highlight her youthful figure, while streams of watermelon pink fabric and shimmering sheer gold material flow from beneath the corset into a skirt of swirls that gradually matures from tight curls to more relaxed waves at her feet. Bringing an air of modest sophistication to this refreshing summer delight, rhinestones imbedded gold accessories and shoes are worn with a Victorian-inspired hairdo.
     
    12:05 a.m. -  Onstage Interview commences.
     
    12:22 a.m. - Contestants return to the stage for the 'Final Look'.
     
    12:26 a.m.  -  Once again, the Genesis Band entertains the audience before the reigning Queen takes her Final Walk.
     
    12:57 a.m.  -  Reigning Queen took her Final Walk.
     
    1:01 a.m.  -  Contestants recalled onstage to await the judges' decision.
