2014 Cooler Fete...an event to remember

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - HUNDREDS of patrons turned out on Saturday evening (Dec. 20) at the Pulse Arena (17 Degrees) armed with coolers filled with drinks for the annual Cooler Fete Event dubbed Soca vs. Dancehall.

Coolers of all shapes and sizes were on hand and even a fishing boat that arrived on the back of a truck was transformed into a cooler for the event by a group of revellers.

However, on the stage, the evening belonged to Soca star Farmer Nappy and Dancehall star Aidonia.

The Trinidadian Farmer Nappy took to the stage at 3:00 a.m. and belted out a number of his Soca hits, including ‘Mingling’, ‘Chippin’, ‘Stranger’ and ‘Surrender’.

The tune that however brought down the house was when the artiste dropped his 2014 hit, ‘Big People Party’, which sent the crowd into rapture.

After exiting the stage, Farmer Nappy was recalled to perform his 1990s hit song ‘Foot-steps’, penned by him but performed by Wayne Rodriguez of the Xtatic Band.

Jamaican Aidonia thrilled the audience with unique styles of Dancehall music and performed some of his better known tracks such as ‘Wine and Bubble’, ‘6:30’, ‘Ukku Bit’ and ‘Daggering’.

His performance included him delving into the audience and performing a few tracks as well as paying tribute to Dancehall legend Bounty Killer, whom he credited for paving the way for himself and other Jamaican artistes.

Aidonia took to the stage shortly after 5:00 a.m. and performed for almost one hour.

The evening’s entertainment also included performances by Kollision Band, TNO Sound, Extasy Sound, Hell Fire Sound, Infamus, who put down another impressive performance, and Mod Stoney who had the crowd spellbound.

The Cooler Fete however ended prematurely with Nu Vybes International not being able to perform due to a shooting incident that took place outside the Pulse Arena.

However, despite the sour ending, the event has been given grave reviews by some patrons who called for it to be held multiple times in each coming year.
