CHRISTMAS MESSAGE BY DEPUTY GOVERNOR MRS. INEZ V. ARCHIBALD

Thursday, December 25, 2014  - At this time of year, we sense a feeling of peace, joy, love and goodwill.  I believe these same feelings are shared by many of you during the Christmas Season.

Often, we spend days frantically shopping for gifts, and hastily preparing to welcome visitors and guests to our homes or inviting them to events.  But, when all is said and done, what do we really have left? What do we hold dear, besides the precious moments spent with family and friends.  I believe we are left with times filled with love, laughter, joy, hope and a spirit of deep thankfulness as we reflect on God’s blessings on our lives.

As the old adage urges, let us “remember the reason for the season”. In the mix of the hustle and bustle, we remember the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour, and, if only on that basis alone, we have reason to be thankful and to celebrate.

I would encourage that you foster the spirit of joy and celebration so that it spreads throughout your home and among members of your family, and into your friendships this Christmas Season.

Make a special effort to reach out to one another - to your neighbour; to that in need; to those who are sick and shut in.  Show one another the true meaning of Christmas, and, may I also challenge you to let it spill over into the New Year?

So now, on behalf of the Public Service of the Virgin Islands, and on my own behalf, I extend warm greetings to the people of the Virgin Islands, and all those who reside among us, for a safe and an enjoyable Christmas Season.

Merry Christmas to you all and a bright, blessed and prosperous New Year!
