Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen…a Caribbean Dynasty

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ELEVEN teenage beauties will be on show this evening (Dec. 30) as the Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen is set for its 35th staging at the Sugar Mill.

In an interview with members of the media, Akila Nisbett of the Haynes Smith Youth Club highlighted some of the alterations made to this year’s pageant.

“We have made a few changes to the production of the show. We have eliminated a segment and joined it with another one. We eliminated the Production Number and added what we call a Theatrical Appearance, something that we plan to grow over time. For this year we are just testing it a little bit.

“We also made changes to the Evening Wear segment, but that part you would have to come and see.”

She added that they were happy to welcome countries which have been absent from the show over the years and revealed that Nevis would not be sending a participant as they did in 2013.

“They were not able to send a participant this year…they just did not have time to prepare a contestant.

“We are always happy when we have countries who have not been here for a while reach out and say we think this is our year and we want to come back. We would never say no to that! I do believe we are going to see different cultures coming out.”

Nisbett declared that they would not be sourcing a regional artiste to perform at the show as in previous years, adding that they have adopted a policy of showcasing local artistes.

“What we have been doing the last few years is trying to push our local artistes because we do believe we have some amazing talent locally, and I don’t think we have done enough to showcase the talent.

“The guest host is Fatman George of Grenada, who is our regional element to it. He is a comedian. He did the show a couple years ago and he always have everybody in stitches, so we are super excited to have him back.”

The reigning Haynes Smith Talented Teen is Pernelle Abraham of St. Kitts who had won the title for the island for the third consecutive year in 2013.
