BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AS the Last Lap for the Sugar Mas 43 celebration begins, there is jubilation in specific camps as the winners of J’Ouvert and Grand Parade winners have been announced.

    Road March

While Grand Masters fans are somewhat disappointed that their band-of-choice did not cop this year’s Road March title, it does not come as much of a surprise that Small Axe Band’s ‘Bottoms In De Road’, which appeared to have been a favourite of the fans, has won the title.

‘De Sweetest Band in the world’, as they are also known, amassed 577 points and has won a $10 000 grand prize.

The Grand Masters Band, with its popular tune ‘Yes’, was close behind with 570 points, leaving the competition with $7 000.

The Nu Vybes Band, which appeared to have had the largest following throughout the street activities, tallied 374 points for third spot with its tune ‘Follow Me’.

    J’Ouvert Results

The Xtreme J’Ouvert Troupe came out on top of the scale with the Best J’Ouvert Troupe title having amassed a total of 151 points, and along with the bragging rights earned itself a $15 000 prize.

Their closest competitor, coming in 46 points below, is the Small Axe and Shiggidy Shack J’Ouvert Troupe. And just one point below that troupe, in Second Runner Up position, is the GM Adixx J’Ouvert Troupe. The latter two will receive respective cash prizes of $11 000 and $8 000.

The Best Individual for J’Ouvert prize was awarded to Shefton Blake who will receive $1 500.

    Grand Parade

There must be some form of celebrating in the Banker’s Mas Camp, especially since the creativity, mas quality and colourfulness resulted in it winning five awards on the Grand Parade Day.

The Carnival Committee today (Jan. 2) informed that Banker’s Sweet Sizzling Summer was adjudged the overall winning troupe with 601 points and a $25 000 cash prize.

Both King and Queen of the Bands awards also went to Banker’s: King of the Bands – CPL with a total of 473 points and a $  cash prize and Queen of the Bands – St. Kitts and Nevis, My Home Land with 472 points and an identical cash prize.

The winnings did not stop there because Sweet Sizzling Summer was also named the Most Colourful Troupe and the Most Creative Troupe with 89 and 119 points respectively. A total cash prize of $5,000 will be awarded for those wins.

Fhunn Vybz’ Birds of a Feather troupe was named the Largest Troupe and captured second position in the Most Creative Troupe category.

It was also tied with Solid SKB’s Deep Blue Sea for First Runner-up position in the Best Overall Troupe category.

Solid SKB also won second place in the Most Colourful Troupe category.

Occasions by Saturday Morning Blast was adjudged Second Runner-up in the Overall Winning Troupe category, captured second position in the King of the Bands category and also in the Queen of the Bands category.

The Sky is the Limit by DFX and Real Right Entertainment also saw success during the street activities by capturing third position in the Overall Winning Troupe category. An $11 000 cash prize will be their reward.
