BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Oxygen Bank at the J N France General Hospital is now equipped with flexible stainless-steel pigtails to help improve the delivery of oxygen at the facility following a donation by a local business.

In a brief handing over ceremony Friday (Jan. 9) at the hospital, officials from Caribbean Industrial Gases donated 12 new flexible stainless steels pigtails to replace the current copper tubings that are used at the medical institution, thus eliminating breakage as experienced in the past.

Robert Felix, a pharmacist at the hospital, indicated that the room within which the pigtails are located is responsible for supplying oxygen to units at the institution and that the donation would improve its distribution.

“I think the installation of these new pigtails, I think it would enhance and improve on the delivery of oxygen that we give to patience on the unit.

“It will help to improve the overall quality of delivery. The old ones that we had, because of the material used overtime, you had wear and tear and sometimes would cause leakage, but these new ones would eliminate that.”

Operations Manager of Caribbean Industrial Gases, AstonLiburd indicated that it was a privilege for the company he represents to make the donation.

“On behalf of Caribbean Industrial Gases, we want to take this opportunity to say thanks for accepting our offer to serve and having us as one of you main suppliers for medical oxygen for the past couple of years.

“It is our privilege to serve you with dignity and pride. To show our appreciation for the years and service, it is our honour and privilege to present JNF General Hospital with 12 stainless steel pigtails as our token of appreciation. We look forward to serving you for many more years to come.”

Pigtails are used to connect a manifold to compressed gas cylinders.
