BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PRIME MINISTER the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has issued a stern warning to supporters of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) to be wary of his former Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, charging that his motives in attempting to secure their votes, are impure.
Dr. Harris, a former member of the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) that Dr. Douglas leads, heads Team Unity which is the unified force of the PAM, Concerned Citizens Movement in Nevis and the People’s Labour Party. And Team Unity has as one of its aims, the removal of Prime Minister Douglas and his Administration from public office.
During today’s (Jan. 13) edition of his weekly radio programme ‘Ask the Prime Minister’, Dr. Douglas alleged that Dr. Harris intents to fool the “PAM people” of his constituency, Number Seven, by lobbying for their votes then disregarding them.
“His game plan is to try to fool the PAM people for them to vote for him because, as he is boasting, all he needs is about…25 percent…of the Labour vote because as far as he is concerned he has 75 percent already of the PAM vote. Imagine, he campaigned against his opponent who was a ‘pamite’, called him the worst of names publicly…did all manner of things to tarnish the young man’s name and image and then he is going to ask PAM people to support him again, simply to use them.
“I speak directly to the PAM supporters, Timothy Harris is taking you for a ride. That’s what he is doing with you, he is taking you for a ride. Timothy Harris does not understand loyalty. Timothy Harris will simply use you and then discard you. Timothy Harris is about self! Look at his own campaign slogan – ‘Harris Again,. Does he speak anything about the welfare of the people?”
Dr. Douglas also alleged that Dr. Harris discriminated against a school child in the release of a scholarship for him because paraphernalia for the SKNLP was stuck on the outer perimeter of his home.
“Do you recall that young child in Constituency Number Seven, the son of a Rastafarian, the son who was given a scholarship identified by a teacher in school to receive one of Timothy’s scholarships, but on visiting the child’s home there was a ‘Full Confidence’ sticker on the gate? And what did he do? Withdraw the scholarship from that young child! That is the nature of the beast…that is Timothy Harris.”
The Prime Minister described Harris as being “power-hungry”, “power-crazy”, “treacherous”, “ungrateful” and a “betrayer”.
