BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE decomposed human remains found yesterday (Jan. 13) afternoon in the St. Paul’s have been identified as Elroy Malone of the same area.
Commander of District B Superintendent Cromwell Henry told SKNVibes that according to reports he received, the 50-year-old was last seen by relatives 10 days earlier (Jan. 3) and a missing person report was filed with the authorities on Friday (Jan. 10).
He explained that the report had led to a number of searches being conducted.
“The police did preliminary searches immediately upon receiving the report. We checked known places where he was likely to be, including the hospital, because the family indicated that he could possibly be there.”
Those searches were unsuccessful. However, as Henry further explained, a multiple-team search conducted yesterday afternoon resulted in a gruesome discovery.
“Today (Jan. 13) we formed search teams comprising of Fire Officers, Police Officers from the Division and relatives and residents from St. Paul’s.
“We spanned the entire St. Paul’s area to include Kittitian Hill, and at about 4:00 p.m. one of the teams located the decomposed body in a ghaut called Amsterdam Ghaut in Willet’s Village. A family member was called in to identify the body via the clothing and the District Medical Officer was called in to pronounce him dead.”
The District Commander indicated that he is not in a position to indicate whether or not foul play could have contributed to Malone’s death, but informed that an autopsy would be performed to determine the cause.
