(SKNAH) Press Release

By: (SKNAH), Press Release

January 15th, 2015  --  The St. Kitts-Nevis Association of a Houston (SKNAH) proudly made donations to the New Horizon Rehabilitation Center (N.H.R.C) and the Charles E Mills Secondary School (C.E.M.S.S) as part of its Pack de Barrel 2014/2015 initiative. Pack de Barrel, a project introduced in 2011, is SKNAH's annual contribution to institutions within the Federation.

On January 5th, two barrels and a large box filled with school supplies, toiletries, clothing and other basic needs were handed over to the Deputy Director of the NHRC, Naeemah Hazelle. Ms. Hazelle expressed gratitude on behalf of the director, staff and residents of the NHRC. She was pleased with the donation and hopeful that such generosity may be continued in the future.

On January 6th, a brand new Frigidaire refrigerator was presented to the CEMSS (formerly the Sandy Point High School). The presentation was made during a brief ceremony in the Home Economics lab. Students, Thalia Wiggley and Azariah Vanterpool rendered the National Anthem and later performed another song, while their schoolmates Tiana Challenger and Dotisha Taylor presented a poem of gratitude.

Remarks were made by Education Officer, Mr. Michael Blake, which included praise of SKNAH for heeding to its patriotic duty of assisting in the complete education of the nation’s students; an important feat he outlined could not be undertaken by the Ministry alone. Mrs. Carla Diamond, principal of the school, ended the proceedings with remarks of profound gratitude. She highlighted the necessity of this refrigerator to complete one of two work stations currently needed to meet the demands of the Home Economics students, particularly those completing CXC School Based Assessments (SBAs).

The goods and materials donated annually by SKNAH are the kind donations of members and friends of SKNAH in the Houston Community. SKNAH would like to extend thanks to all those who contribute and participate in 'Pack De Barrel' yearly.

Formally established in 2008, SKNAH is grass roots non-profit organization with the purpose of providing support and enhancing the lives of Kittitians and Nevisians in our Federation and the Greater Houston, Texas area. We are involved in educational, cultural, social service programs, volunteerism and keeping our culture strong and vibrant.
