By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 14, 2015 (SKNIS): The students of the St. Paul’s Primary School were among the first to wish Prime Minister, The Right Honourable Dr Denzil Douglas Happy Birthday when he visited them this morning, January 14.

During the short festive visit, there was the singing of the birthday song and a presentation of six cupcakes to the Prime Minister by sixth grade student Zanique Williams who stated that each one symbolized each decade of his life this far.  Prime Minister Douglas in turn gave the students some inspiring words of advice.

Prime Minister Douglas said that the visit was special, and he wanted to share a message with the students.  He said, “in the room today, is a future Prime Minister,” and went on to tell the students “to be respectful to their peers, teachers, parents and all adults in the community. If you are respectful, if you learn your lessons well, if you are disciplined and focused, you will grow up to be whatever you want to be, you will be whatever you want to be.  This is the message I want to leave with you today.  This is a special day for me, it is my birthday, and I wanted to come to this school,  my school and leave a special message with you.  You can be whatever you want to be.”

The Prime Minister also challenged them to make wise decisions and encouraged them to strive to be good citizens. He told them to work hard and you will be whatever you want to be.

Six lucky students shared the cupcakes presented to the Prime Minister, while each student and member off staff also had a chance to celebrate with the over 200 cup cakes provided to celebrate the PM’s Birthday visit.  Dr Douglas, then mingled with the students,  many shaking his hand and posing for pictures.  Prime Minister Douglas also visited the St. Paul’s Early Childhood Center where he was surprised by the toddlers in their rendition of Happy Birthday.  Prime Minister Douglas smiled in approval.
