BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PRIME MINISTER of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas this evening (Jan. 16) announced on the steps of Government Headquarters that Parliament has been dissolved.
Following today emergency Parliamentary sitting which saw the passage of a resolution to change the Federation’s Constituency boundaries, Dr. Douglas announced that the unamended draft Proclamation and accompanying resolution were sent to the Governor General, His Excellency Sir Edmund Lawrence.
“...As a result of all that, I hereby now announce that I have advised His Excellency the Governor General to dissolve your Parliament, the National Assembly of St. Kitts and Nevis, effective today the 16th day of January to give effect to the Proclamation.
“We have realigned the constituency boundaries of St. Christopher/St. Kitts and Nevis. I further announce that the date of the General Elections of the Parliament or National Assembly of St. Kitts and Nevis will be announced later.
