BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTATIVE for Constituency Eight, Eugene Hamilton claimed that he is not troubled by his ejection from the emergency sitting of Parliament on Friday (Jan. 16).
On that day, while Prime Minister the Rt. Hon Dr. Denzil Douglas was delivering the schedule for the new constituency boundaries, Hamilton was indicating to the Speaker, the Hon. Curtis Martin, that the parliamentary proceedings were in contradiction of the rules of the House and should not be taking place.
The Speaker however indicated that Hamilton failed to prove what was wrong about the proceedings and asked the Prime Minister to continue his presentation.
Hamilton however continued in his stance before the quite noticeable frustrated Speaker who called on a Government Parliamentarian to move a motion to have him removed.
The motion was moved by Dr. Douglas.
“Having heard you named the Member for St. Christopher Eight several times, I move a motion that in order to discontinue the disturbance and confusion created by the Member of St. Christopher Eight that he be removed so that the house will have order and it can continue with its mission here today.”
The motion then went to a division vote and eight Parliamentarians voted to have him removed.
Upon Hamilton’s exit of the Parliament, SKNVibes questioned him on the reason for the position he had taken that caused his ejection.
“Rule 28 of the Parliament says that a motion coming to Parliament must be given three days notice, and that resolution has not been given three days notice. They just bring and spring it on people; so they have broken the rules! Rule 28 of the rules have been broken.
He was also asked about his thoughts on his ejection.
“The Speaker could do whatever he wants but the people are going to send me back.”
