Team UNITY to Construct State of the Art Transportation Centers in Basseterre as part of Urban Re-development Programme

Ian Patches Liburd acknowledges the love from the crowd
By: Team UNITY, Press Release (TUCOM)

Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM-January 16th 2015):- Team UNITY East Basseterre Candidates Ian “Patches” Liburd  and Jonel Powell have both announced plans for the construction of  state of the art bus terminals in their respective  constituencies.

Liburd The People’s Action Movement Candidate explained that a  terminal would be built in East Basseterre to resolve the congestion presently experienced at the Bakers Corner East-Side Bus stop.

The construction of  brand new state of the art Transportation Centers are a part of Team UNITY’s overall Basseterre Urban Re-Development programme which will see the complete renewal of the urban area.

As part of the Urban Renewal Program in it’s Prosperity Agenda Team UNITY plans to construct new terminal facilities, not only in East Basseterre, but also the main transportation center or Ferry and Bus Terminal on the bay road as well a third to service the St.Peters and New Road passengers.

The Social Activist and popular Radio Talk Show host declared  “We are going to put you in a modern bus terminal right next to the Public Works Department, to relocate the east line bus stop.  You will have shops. You will have restaurants. You will have bathroom facilities, and you can travel like you have travelled all over the world.”

“Imagine when you go down to the bus terminal in Basseterre where thousands of people travel between St. Kitts and Nevis nowhere to relax. We are going to create a brand new terminal for the commuters travelling through those facilities, and for the St. Peter’s line as well,” Liburd continued.

Team UNITY Candidate Jonel Powell alluded to the Urban Re-Development Programme recently when he stated “The Team UNITY  Urban Redevelopment program will rid the Basseterre area, including Central, East and West Basseterre  of the hundreds of  old and abandoned buildings and empty fields that are not only unsightly but unsafe and havens for criminals.

The Programme will include working with the owners to replace these with new structures of affordable homes and businesses. Instead of always clearing cane fields to build low income houses for some of the people, those who wish to remain in their area, the same money could be directed to renovate and rebuild the facilities they already own and occupy.”
