CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE Dominican Republic national, who had been evading police for some four weeks, was captured last night (Jan. 18) while attempting to flee the country.

Police on Nevis last night launched an operation which resulted in the apprehension of wanted man Alexander Diaz and two Jamaican nationals, “who were attempting to smuggle out on a fishing boat to St. Maarten”

A police release informed that the three men are in custody and formal charges would be laid against them.

The release also informed that the police had discharged several rounds of ammunition during the operation, but they have not received any report of injuries from the local hospitals.

It however stated that the vessel and its operator(s) had eluded the police but “an active investigation is being carried out to identify and bring to justice the boat owners/operators involved in these types of activities”.

“Commissioner CG Walwyn wishes to thank ACP Queeley and the Nevis Division of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force for the excellent coordinating during this investigation” the release added.

Diaz was wanted for allegedly stabbing another Dominican Republic national named Pabel Santana who succumbed to his injuries at the Alexandra Hospital on Saturday, December 27, 2014.

According to reports reaching SKNVibes, three persons, including Santana, were injured during an incident that occurred at Enrigue Bar in Charlestown, Nevis on Sunday December 21, 2015.

Santana was taken to the Alexandra Hospital, where he was treated and warded, but died six days later.

Diaz was fingered in Santana’s death and a wanted bulletin was issued on Wednesday (Dec. 24) for him as a person of interest. However, another bulletin was subsequently issued, which stated that he was wanted for murder following Santana’s death.
