BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A traffic accident that occurred in Nevis this afternoon (Jan. 19) has claimed the life of a young man who is said to be of the Gingerland area.
The incident – according to reports reaching SKNVibes – took place sometime between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Bath Plains.
This media house understands that the victim, Vern Powell, was travelling in a blue motorcar reportedly from the countryside into the city when the accident occurred.
Circumstances relative to the incident are still unclear to this media house, but it is alleged that while making an attempt to overtake a vehicle in the vicinity of The Academy School, he lost control, crashed into a pole and snapped it in two during the process.
The police were summoned to the scene, as well as the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services Department and the Emergency Medical Services.
This publication was told that the young man had to be extricated from the vehicle but he however succumbed to his injuries on the scene. He was reportedly pronounced dead by the District Medical Officer.
The Police are making investigations into the incident which marks Nevis’ first road fatality for the year.
