JANUARY 20th 2015 -- Antigua and Barbuda and Saint Kitts and Nevis are set to benefit from technical assistance provided by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) subregional headquarters for the Caribbean in 2015.
ECLAC will assist the government of Antigua and Barbuda in the development of a national trade policy, in addition to providing technical support through two undertakings. The first will be a functional review of the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Industry. The second will be a review of the country’s National Consumer Protection Mechanisms. The latter activity will include an analysis of the Consumer Price Index, which will complement the development of the new trade policy.
In Saint Kitts and Nevis, ECLAC will support the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs in the development of a plan to implement the country's National Manufacturing Strategy. In addition, ECLAC will assist in the formulation of a strategy for implementing the recommendations of the recently completed agro-industry market study.
Preparatory work for both projects has commenced. Extensive consultations with stakeholders from both the public and private sectors will be carried out, and will culminate in the delivery of policy recommendations and strategies, later this year.
