BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THOUSANDS of people turned out last evening (Jan. 24) in support of the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party’s (SKNLP) Concert held at St. Peter’s Playground, which featured two of the region’s top artistes - Tanya Stephens and Jah Cure.

With the majority draped in red, the attendees were greeted with speeches by all eight candidates of the Labour Candidate who gave reasons why their party should be returned to office following the inevitable General Elections.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas proclaimed that it was in celebration of the Federation’s youth.

“This is a massive celebration of the young people from St. Kitts and Nevis. Don’t let anybody fool you, you are good, you are better and you are the best. St. Kitts-Nevis Youth (SKNY) this is your time to celebrate with this party which is the only party that is qualified to take the country forward.”

He also professed the love he has for serving people.

“Being the Prime Minister is a very challenging job! It is not easy but I love what I am doing, and if I have to do it for another 20 years that is the way it will be.”

However, the main event of the evening was the entertainment package on offer which started with Jamaican songstress Tanya Stevens, who was introduced to the massive crowd at approximately 10:40 p.m.

Dressed in a pair of black leather pants with a blue/grey top and donning a large pair of sunglasses, Stevens delivered a 45-minute crowd-engaging performance as she blasted out some of her past and more recent hits.

Some of her hits included “These Streets’, ‘It’s a Pity’ and ‘Can’t Breathe’ in a performance that appealed to the female section of the audience.

On the other hand, Jah Cure, her Jamaican counterpart, after taking the stage just before midnight, served a diet of conscious Reggae music to the pleasure of the audience.

During his performance, Jah Cure paid tribute to fellow Jamaican artistes Vybz Kartel and Buju Banton, who are both serving prison terms in Jamaica and the United States respectively.

He also reminded the audience of his personal run-ins with the law with the rendition of his song ‘Prison Walls’.
Jah Cure performed for approximately one hour and the crowd requested an encore, which willingly obliged.

Local Soca band Nu Vybes International brought the curtains down on the Labour Party Concert.
