BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ENERGISED supporters of the SKNLP/NRP coalition flocked the Best Buy parking lot last evening (Jan. 27) for the long-awaited ringing of the bell to signal the announcement of Election Day and to hear from all 11 candidates who would be representing the partnership during the upcoming General Elections.

Thousands were in attendance of the historic meeting where the candidates, eight from St. Kitts and three from Nevis, made brief presentations to their supporters.

The predominant theme of the presentations was a call for the coalition to be returned to office with a specific call for the partnership to sweep the entire Elections and emerge with all 11 seats.

The hype and expectation of the evening peaked when Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas called for the bell and, in his usual grand style, rang it, declaring that Nomination Day is February 6 and Election Day is February 16.

With a red bell decorated with a large red bow hoisted into the air, Dr. Douglas proclaimed that it is “the red bell, the green bell, the bell of victory, the bell of freedom, the bell of fairness and justice, the bell of victory...for the St. Kitts/Nevis Labour Party and the Nevis Reformation Party”.

After vigorously ringing the bell, Dr. Douglas handed it over to his colleagues who also rang it in like manner.

Advising his supporters to “find your class”, the Prime Minister again named the candidates for whom the electorates are being asked to vote: the Hon. Earl Asim Martin in Constituency Number One, the Hon. Marcella Liburd in Two, Konris Maynard in Three, the Hon. Glenn Phillip in Constituency Number Four, Dr. Norgen Wilson in Constituency Number Five, Dr. Vance Gilbert in Seven, Dr. Terrence Drew in Eight, the Hon. Robelto Hector in Nevis Nine, Cory Tyson for Nevis Ten, the Hon. Patrice Nisbett in Nevis Constituency Number Eleven and in Constituency Number Six, the Prime Minister himself would be contesting.

Prime Minister Douglas issued a word to Unity supporters, inviting them to “crossover” and join the Labour movement and that they would be accepted with “open arms”.
