Which House will be the most successful this Sports Term?

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WITH the start of the second school term, also known as the Sports Term, athletes from every learning institution in St. Kitts and Nevis will be on show representing their Houses.

Schools in St. Kitts normally compete in three or four Houses with red, blue, green, gold and orange, the colours mostly used at the learning institutions.

The Sports Term also causes a stir among the adult population which often supports a house based on the one they were in during their time in school or on the house within which their child is placed.

The schools at the moment are already engaged in pre-sports day heats with students aiming to give their respective House an early advantage ahead of Sports Day.

Last year in the Sports Days covered by this publication, it was noted that Red House dominated most of the events at the Cayon High School, Washington Archibald High School, Cayon Primary School, Dean Glasford Primary School and the St. Paul’s Primary School.

Green was dominant at Verchild’s High School and Tucker Clarke Primary School, while Blue House was the dominant force at Basseterre High School, Charles E Mills Secondary School and Saddlers Secondary School.

In 2015 the Sports Days will kick off on February 20 with the Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School and the George Moody Stuart School. On the following day Newton Ground Primary School and Edgar T Morris Primary School will have their day in the spotlight.

On Sunday, February 22 Basseterre High School will be the first in that category in St. Kitts to host their Sports Day, while on February 26 Saddlers Secondary School and the Seventh Day Adventist Primary School will host their premier sport display.

The following day will see the reigning TDC Inter-School Champs Charles E Mills Secondary School, Beach Allen Primary School and Dean Glasford Primary School hosting their Sports Day.

February 28 will see Sports Days by the Sandy Point Primary School and Estridge Primary School, while on the following day athletes from Washington Archibald High School and St. Paul’s Primary School will be in the spotlight.

Tucker Clarke Primary and Violet Petty Primary Schools will hold their event on March 4 while the trio of Cayon High School, Dr. William Connor Primary and Maurice Hillier Memorial School on the day after.

March 5 will see the busiest day on the calendar with four schools hosting Sports Days with Saddlers Primary, Cayon Primary, Irish Town and the Tyrell Williams Primary all sharing the spotlight.

On the following day, athletes from Dieppe Bay Primary and the Bronte Welsh Primary Schools will be in action. Also on that day the Department of Sports will be hosting the second annual CenPOS Private Primary School Track and Field Competition.

March 8 will be the final day for Sports Days with Verchilds High School bringing an end to the individual schools competition.

The schools will then choose their best athletes from those Sports Days for representation at the Ram's Primary School Championships on March 14 and 15. The following weekend will see the high schoolers competng in the TDC Inter-School Championships.
