CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - It was a sea of multiple colours in the streets of downtown Charlestown, as thousands of party ‘faithfuls’ celebrated the Unity construct’s victory at the recently concluded General Elections.

After winning seven of the 11 seats in the Monday (Feb. 16) Federal Elections, the tri-party coalition Team Unity took its victory jam to Nevis.

A motorcade comprising hundreds of assorted vehicles with thousands of supporters waving blue, yellow and orange flags, which symbolised support for the three parties that make up Team Unity, drove around the island of Nevis in celebratory mood.

On reaching Charlestown, the deafening sounds of horns, whistles and drums reverberated off the wall of the buildings along the streets as scores of supporters from as far as Constituencies Seven and Eight from St. Kitts joined the procession.

The motorcade ended in Charlestown and the participants converged on Hunkins Drive, where an even larger contingent of supporters joined them to see the newly-elected members of the coalition team and to hear the messages that they brought.

At the venue, a number of large speaker-boxes were erected from which the Swearing In Ceremony of Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris was being broadcast.

On hearing him taking the Oaths of Allegiance, Office and of Secrecy, followed by the Governor-General presenting him with the Instrument of Appointment, Hunkins Drive was transformed into a carnival-like atmosphere with loud cheers and supporters jammed to the music of Nu Vybes Band International.

The music continued into the night until the arrival of Prime Minister Harris and the new Attorney-General, Senator Vincent Byron Jr.

The two of them were greeted with pomp and ceremony and the massive crowd was shortly after addressed by all of Team Unity’s candidates who had contested the Elections.

The seven seats that Team Unity won are: Constituency One by the People’s Action Movement’s (PAM) Ian ‘Patches’ Liburd, Lindsay Grant of PAM in Constituency Four, PAM’s Shawn Richards in Constituency Five, Dr. Timothy Harris of the People’s Labour Party in Constituency Seven, PAM’s Eugene Hamilton in Constituency Eight, Mark Brantley of the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) in Constituency Nine, and Premier Vance Amory of the CCM in Constituency 10.

A similar event is slated for St. Kitts this weekend, which will be followed by the Swearing In of Cabinet Members on Sunday (Feb. 22).
