    February 20th, 2015  --  Following on the massive 70th Anniversary of Birth Celebration Concert dubbed Redemption Live! for the Honourable Nesta Robert Marley OM ( Bob Marley, Donald Marley, Tuff Gong) held at the Kingston Downtown Waterfront in Jamaica on Saturday, 7 February 2015;  the all day long Celebration of drumming, chanting, singing, craft and local products sales, and symposiums at his former home, now the Bob Marley Museum, at 56 Hope Road in Jamaica on Friday, 6 February 2015;  and various other celebratory events held in various countries around the world, the Jamaican Kittitian (JamKit) Association, the Association of Jamaicans and friends of Jamaicans living in St Kitts & Nevis, will host its Tribute to the King of Reggae on Saturday, 28 February 2015 at the St George's Anglican Church Hall (Old Girls' School), Victoria Road, Basseterre, St Kitts starting at 7.00pm.

     

    The Anniversary of the Birth of the King of Reggae is on 6 February.  He was born in 1945 and died on 11 May 1981.  The following Reggae/Cultural Icons also celebrate Anniversaries of Birth in the month of February and will also be celebrated at the Event to be hosted by the JamKit Association:
     
    Dennis Emannuel Brown CD, the Crown Prince of Reggae - born 1 February 1957;  died 1 July 1999;
     
    William Alexander Anthony Clarke (Bunny Scott, Bunny Rugs), lead singer of Third World for 39 years - born 6 February 1948;  died 2 February 2014;
     
    The Honourable Ralston Milton (Rex) Nettleford OM, 'the Renaissance Man', Cultural Icon, Choreographer, Scholar, Vice Chancellor Emeritus of the University of the West Indies, Author and Social Critic - born 3 February 1933;  died 2 February 2010;
     
    Tambola Kitwana, Cultural Icon of St Kitts & Nevis, presenter of the radio programme, Under The Banyon Tree - anniversary of birth, 6 February.
     
    Jamaicans in St Kitts & Nevis and then later the JamKit Association have been involved with an Annual Tribute to Reggae Icon, the Honourable Bob Marley for several years, starting in 2007.  Over the years other Icons have been added to the Celebration, starting with Dennis Brown who has been part of the Celebration since 2008.
     
    In 2010, the year in which he died, tribute was paid to the Honourable Rex Nettleford as part of that year's Event. In 2014 Bunny Rugs and Tambola Kitwana were added to the list of celebrants for that year's Event.  In this the 9th year of celebration, 2015 will be the first year that all the five (5) mentioned Icons will be celebrated together.
     
    The Tribute Events for 2007, 2008 and 2014 were held in collaboration with Kactus Entertainment/Club Kactus, managed by Jamaican, Romeo Parris, while those held in 2011, 2012 and 2013 were executed in collaboration with Island Xpressions, managed by Kittitian, Samal Duggins.  JamKit has been committed to ensuring that the Tribute is held annually and its members have therefore planned and executed in years when there were no other entities to assist in the execution.  
     
    Local singers, musicians, poets and spoken work presenters will contribute of their talents to this important Event on 28 February 2015.
     
    The JamKit Association invites all to come out and participate in this evening of remembrance and tribute to these Caribbean Icons who have contributed so much to the cultural development of the Region.
