BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE commotion of claps, cheers and the blowing of whistles drew everyone’s attention and then the announcement was made that Carolyn Blake of Shadwell has kicked of Kajola Kristada’s Employee of the Month celebrations for 2015, having won the title for January.

Blake did not expect it and while she was executing her duties on the SMT (Surface Mount) Line, she thought the commotion was related to another exercise.

“I was at my station doing my work and they were blowing this whistle going around the entire factory and I was wondering what all the noise was about. And someone suggested that maybe it was 5S, which is something we do to ensure that areas are kept clean and people are doing their jobs etc. and points are won for particular lines.

“They kept blowing the whistle and kept clapping and they passed me and came back around and they shouted: ‘Employee of the Month.’ I didn’t really pay them any attention but after saying it about three times, I realised they were speaking to me. I was really shocked. I was overwhelmed.”

Usually, the Employee of the Month is advised that he or she has won the title after being summoned to the office of the Human Resource Manager.

SKNVibes however understands that for 2015, Kajola had decided to ‘amp up’ the announcements but making them in the presence of all employees and in a celebratory manner.

Blake told SKNVibes she feels great knowing that she started the ball rolling for the 2015 Employee of the Month programme.

She kept smiling throughout the interview and said she did not do anything differently in the month of January but continued giving her best effort.

Her supervisor Valarie Adams said Blake began working on the SMT Line in January and she proved herself as a dependable and committed individual.

“She started working on the SMT Line from January and, to be honest, her performance, everything was good, good, good. We could depend on her. Anytime we ask her to work overtime, whether it is until 4:15 or 6:15 or 8:15, to finish a customer order, she’s always there to assist. She is dependable. I want to congratulate you and we do hope that you win it next time around again.”

Two thousand and fifteen would make eight years since Blake has been employed with Kajola Kristada. She expressed confidence that she could win the title again in February and indicated that she would continue to strive for that goal.

    Congratulations Carolyn!
