Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 23, 2015 (SKNIS) -- St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris has vowed to “give his all” as he publicly accepted the role of Prime Minister and assumed the ministerial portfolio of Finance, Sustainable Development, National Security, People Empowerment and Constituency Empowerment.

“It is a tremendous honour and an extraordinary privilege for me to serve you as our country’s Prime Minister and I give you now my solemn pledge that I will spend every waking minute of every hour, of everyday that God blesses me with henceforth, giving all as it were, working full throttle to make life better for you the people of my beloved St. Kitts and Nevis,” Prime Minister Harris stressed, during his remarks at the official Swearing In Ceremony on Sunday (February 22).

“I promise you that my cabinet will lead this country, with your help and your prayers, to a better place for all the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and not just for some of the people. I promise you that your government will be fair, fair to all and we shall ensure that all of our citizens and residents receive a fairer share of the national resources.”

Prime Minister Harris emphasized that “we have made history” and the full cabinet of the Government of National Unity was determined to “be a model for the rest of the Caribbean to follow.”

The St. Kitts and Nevis leader quoted the South African anti-apartheid revolutionary and late President Nelson Mandela: “The task at hand will not be easy, but you have mandated us to change from a land in which the majority lived with little hope to one in which they can live and work with dignity, with a sense of self esteem and confidence in the future.”

To much applause, Prime Minister Harris urged the populace to “embrace this new paradigm. Let us approach the future with a renewed sense of purpose, with fresh thoughts, attitudes and behaviours that set the conditions for a better and brighter future for this country.”
