BASSETERRE, ST. Kitts - THE twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has become synonymous with the production top quality athletes in track and field, with some of them even being household names.

Some of these athletes are international sensations and have already made their debuts in 2015 on the indoor circuit and did Kittitians and Nevisians proud with their outstanding performances.

In an interview with this publication, Public Relations Officer of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association, Evris Huggins gave an insight to the season thus far of some of these athletes.

“We haven't heard too much from some of the known athletes, but we have to speak about Kim Collins. First 6.50 then 6.48 twice, then now we understand 6.47.”

So far for the year, Collins had participated in eight 60-meter events across the globe and he has won all of them, with the latest being a 6.50-second dash in the 2015 Salisbury Games held in Birmingham on Saturday (Feb. 21).

Huggins went on to speak about the other athletes currently competing on the indoor circuit.

“We see Antione Adams running 6.63 in the 60 metres and we have Rosalie Pringle who is doing quite well in her first indoor campaign. She has had personal bests in the 600 metres, which is a non-traditional and only indoor event. I understand she ran 2:33 in the 800 metres indoor. I am not certain if it is a national indoor record as yet, but it is likely to be a national indoor record.

“We have Shenel Crooke who is completing her first full season on the indoor circuit. She has been hitting 7.64 in the 60 metres. She started off the season running 7.71 - 7.72 and she is just running personal bests every time she competes.”

He indicated that Jason Rogers may have encountered some difficulty which has had an effect on his 2015 campaign thus far.

“Jason Rogers is here; he was training with Athletics Canada. I guess with the visa restriction he was unable to go out and compete in a timely manner, so we are looking forward to him opening his outdoor campaign.”

Huggins also gave what he believes are the prospects for SKN athletes in 2015.

“I think, long and short of it, we are shaping up to have a very good season this year. It is a very long season but I do think the athletes are gauging themselves accordingly and trying not to peak at an early stage.“
