BASSTERRRE, St. Kitts - ATHLETES of the Sandy Point Primary School were on show at that town’s Recreational Ground on Saturday (Feb. 28) where they put on an impressive performance as the school aims to successfully defend its title in the RAMS Primary School Championships in two weeks time.

In front of a packed ground, Trishanie Warner of Orange House proved why she is considered one of the top young athletes in St. Kitts and Nevis as she dominate and outclassed her opponents in every event in which she participated.

Warner started the day by winning the Senior Girls 800 metres before winning the 200, 60, 100 and 400 metres races.

Her day climaxed as she was named Victrix Ludorum as the best female athlete.

On the male side, K’Anthony Benjamin of Blue House impressed in the sprint events as he dominated the Senior Boys category and went on to earn the title of Victor Ludorum.

However, it was the athletes of Blue House who were in celebratory mood as they topped the points table on Sports Day as well as the overall count.

One inspirational moment was observed during the Under Nine Girls 4x100 metres when Blue House starter was leading the race and fell losing the lead, but she picked herself up and passed the baton to the second athlete and the lost distance was decrease as the other three legs brought the team back into contention and eventually won the race.

As is the norm at Sports Days, hundreds of parents were in attendance cheering for their children and encouraging them to give of their best, with some having to be curtailed as they got to excited at seeing their children doing well.

The athletics coach of the Sandy Point Primary School will now be turning his attention in preparation of the institution’s top athletes for the RAMS Primary School Championships to be held later this month.
